The Season of Celebration
I begin this blog by
stating a disclaimer of sorts, this is no way meant as an attack on any
religious group but merely and observation made by someone who is not of the
'Christian Faith'.
A lot of my
'Christian' friends complain that they are under attack because their religion
is no longer the primary faith in the United States. However, this is the truth
our Constitution has a separation of Church and State for a reason, in part
because our many of our founding fathers were Agnostic which by definition
simply means they did not believe in the idea that God existed or rather there
even was a god, in other words it could be argued Atheist in nature. When one
considers that, than it should be logical to conclude that this line of this is
no longer a Christian nation is a bunch of nonsense fed to you buy your
preachers, political party etc... this is important because in order to have an
open discussion about the idea of Christmas it is important to understand that
there has never been an attempt to make Christianity the national religion.
Why is this
important, well, let me put in perspective, an old friend of mine posted on
Social Media that the First Lady had put the nativity back on the lawn of the
White House, and as usual the flock of misinformed had plenty to say bashing
the previous administration and saying things like Christ is back in Christmas,
so on and so on. Which personally I
found as an insult, not just to me but to others who live, and work in this
country and are constantly subjected to this religious bigotry. So this is the
truth, Christians are not be persecuted, not only are they not being persecuted
but they are often the ones doing the persecuting of others that are different,
different religions, sexual orientations, and different political ideologies.
It matters because, we as a nation are currently in a state of divide and
separate, this occurs because people do
not look for answers on their own but rather take what their pastors, and
political parties say as gospel. Yet
this is not the intention of the founding fathers, who believed in part it was
important for the electorate to educate themselves on matters of state, state
in our case at this current moment means defining the boundaries of
Christianity in a nation where there is purposely a separation of Religion and
Government.
In all of this many
arguments could be made against and for the idea of faith in government, but in
truth when faith determines the action of a nation, in which those who are not
of a certain faith are forced to practice the faith than we end up back in the
'dark ages' where people are murdered for suspected non conformity to a
religion that has not meaning to them. This as history tells us in not a good
thing. It is not a good thing because
many have been murdered in the name of religion. Either because they were not the state
religion or because they were a specific religion.
So back to my friend
and her social media post, I was tempted to post a negative comment, and all I
said is that if you believe that Christ was taken out of Christmas than perhaps
the issue is you and not everyone else your religion tells you to be steadfast
in your faith and practice of it. Not
everyone celebrates Christmas or is Christian. To which I got a retort you
liberals are the problem, Christmas is about the birth of Christ who cares
about other faiths. I responded and that is the difference, Liberals like
myself understand that not all of us are Christian and we believe that public
displays of one faith on federal grounds is a
violation of the Constitution that separates church and state. Removing the
nativity is not a persecution of Christians but rather an acknowledgement that
in placing religious symbols on federal land we violate the very laws we hold sacred. No response instead my friend states, I can
post what I want on my wall, to which I state, no one said you cannot, but it
shows up on my wall so I have the right to respond freedom of speech works both
ways.
This is the
different perspective, I am not Christian I celebrate the Yule Tide which
begins on December 20th and ends on December 25th. Yule is the celebration of
the rebirth of the Sun God, who will grow stronger so our crops can grow in the
growing seasons, Sound familiar?
